The National Incident Management System (NIMS), a part of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive-5, is designed to provide a consistent approach to incident control practices. Department of Homeland Security grant funds can be leveraged to accelerate compliance, and SNS’s solutions have already met the criteria for inclusion on the Authorized Equipment List.

NIMS Compliance

Incident Commanders must contend with multiple challenges during an emergency incident, from consequence management of the event itself and ensuring the correct resources are deployed properly, to the safety of all the people involved – victims, responders, as well as press and the public. Secure Network Systems™ has developed a system to facilitate Emergency Management planning, operations, and accountability that spans local municipalities, State and Federal consequence management resources. It emphasizes compliance with open standards and interoperability between parallel initiatives, including NIMS and Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12).

NIMS-IMPACT® Solution

SNS’s NIMS-IMPACT® (Incident Management Perimeter Access Control and Tracking) is centered around a foundational appliance for physical and IT access control using a unified credential. Video surveillance and hazardous environment sensors are standard features, and most current cameras and sensors in use today by Emergency Management are supported. Since this system is completely portable, issuance of credentials can be rapidly performed onsite. Segregation of areas and limiting access using advanced physical access control elements to form Secure Concentric Rings™ support the philosophies and isolation goals of the ICS underpinnings of NIMS. Wireless communications that function in both urban and rural sites govern communication between portable units, and backend communications to state and regional resources is configurable across hardwired and wireless media. Various card issuance systems are also supported, as well as manufacturers of multi-technology smart cards.
